PADDLE PAIRINGS

In 2023, there were an estimated 13.6 million pickleball players in the United States with a reported 36.5 million people having played pickleball at least once in the previous year, which is a whopping 14% of our country’s adult population. Padel is now also quickly growing in popularity in the U.S., being predicted as the next major racket sport!

One of the beauties of the racketeering movement is that it is inherently social and something people enjoy doing in friend groups and even as a way to meet new people or network over this common interest. Given the continued racket-craze in combination with the “flocking” trend we are seeing emerge with travelers looking for ways to disconnect from their phones and meet new pals IRL, we propose offering a “paddle pairing service” through the main lobby, where racket-sport-loving guests can sign up to be paired to play against or with other guests throughout their stay. This could be done online or maybe with a simple sign-up board in the lobby or by the concierge table!

A huge trend as we approach 2025 is an evolution of the “first city, second city” trend we’ve seen previously. It is now developing to focus on under-the-radar or underrated destinations that may be close to or easily accessible from what are considered “hot destinations” that have become over-touristed or overdone. We see Rio Grande fitting perfectly into this trend as a “detour destination” from the beautiful city of San Juan.

We plan to leverage Rio Grande’s proximity and accessibility “off the beaten path” from San Juan to position the resort as a worthwhile detour for any stories covering this trend, especially as Spring Break approaches. We’ll pitch the island as the ultimate hassle, passport-free family destination where guests can have two vacation experiences for the price of just one roundtrip airfare to SJC.

Diamond PR has developed a great working relationship with the BTA, which is a professional organization founded in 2020 with the mission to support Black travel professionals through education, media, and corporate positions.

Knowing that serving this under-represented and under-served market is a huge goal in 2025, our team is excited to connect with BTA members on behalf of the property and hopefully connect the resort with them in 2025 to partner for upcoming initiatives and opportunities.

Spring Press Trip

When we visited for our December 2024 press trip, we discussed how we could diversify and switch up our press trip itinerary going into the new year. The idea of doing an excursion to Old San Juan in combination with our El Yunque outing was proposed and we think it could be a wonderful way to highlight the resort’s accessibility to both the city and rainforest.

In addition to leveraging the detour trend, one of our biggest missions in 2025 is to increase our outreach to the Black community and want to partner with Black storytellers who can help with that part of the resort’s messaging. We want the BIPOC community to know that Puerto Rico is their home away from home and invite them to explore La Isla del Encanto with us, so it is important to bring writers, editors and creators to experience the property to help spread the word. We’ll make sure that one or more of the press trip guests that we invite to join us this spring and on future press trips are of the BIPOC community so they can share their firsthand experiences with readers. Some sample publication targets include Essence, XONecole, Travel Noire, and more.
